Missionary

Since 1997, Dr. Carlin has traveled to underprivileged countries
donating his time and resources to perform dental procedures
that individuals would otherwise not receive.  Dr. Carlin has to
prepare for ten days worth of supplies for each mission.
He carries all of them with him on the plane so they are not
"lost" with his luggage as he cannot work without them.

Dr. Carlin and several dental hygienists have been to Mangua
(Nicaragua) and Manila (Phillipines). More recently Dr. Carlin has
been to Kenya three times even though it is not necessarily
safe to travel to this area.

Dr. Carlin brought two autoclaves (sterilization machines) and left
them in Kenya to be used by the Sisters of Eldoret.  The Sisters of
Eldoret are the group that Dr. Carlin works with while in Kenya.
The sterilization of instruments is extremely important and
assists in promoting a "healthy environment" and helps to stop
the spread of infection and diseases.

Dr. Carlin would like to eventually set up a "mobile dental unit"
in Kenya that can travel to other towns and villages.  This would
allow him to extend the services he provides to other area's
where there are people in desperate need of dental work.

For Dr. Carlin the most difficult part of these missionary trips is
leaving his wife, Laura and his four children, Anna, Noah, Nina
and Olivia.  Dr. Carlin has explained to his children how
important these trips (with his absence) are to help people that
are less fortunate.

Below are some pictures from Dr. Carlin's missionary trips.
